What we collect, and why.

Who this is

This website

The site is served by Cloudflare, which sees the requests your browser makes, including your IP address, in order to deliver the pages. How Cloudflare handles that is covered by Cloudflare's own privacy policy.

Visitor counts come from Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint your device, and reports aggregate numbers such as page views and countries. We cannot see individual visitors in it.

The site sets one cookie, and only when you change the language, so the site stays in that language. Nothing else is stored in your browser by us.

If a script on a page fails, your browser sends one short error report to our server. It carries no cookie and no identifier, and we keep it for a few days.

Buying a license

Payment is handled by Stripe, which acts as the merchant of record. Stripe collects your payment details and any tax information; we never see your card number. From Stripe we receive the email address and name you gave at checkout, the amount, and Stripe's identifiers for the payment.

We keep that as your license record, together with the license code we issue. It is what lets you recover a lost code, manage your machines, and receive a refund. We keep it for as long as the license exists, and afterwards for as long as refunds, payment disputes and tax law require.

Most emails from us are about your purchase and your license: the license code, activation links, trial links, recovery links. Because you bought or tried Performative, we may also email you about new versions, new products and offers from Performative Labs. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects the license emails. We do not share your address with anyone.

The plugin

A license is bound to the machines you activate it on. Each machine is identified by a machine code: a one-way hash derived from an identifier of that computer. It cannot be turned back into that identifier and it does not identify you. We store the machine code and activation time for each slot on your license.

The plugin contacts our server for three things: to check for updates, which sends nothing about you or your license and can be switched off in settings; to activate, when you press Activate; and to renew a license periodically, sending the license id and machine code so a refund or a lost machine can release its slot. Renewal cannot be switched off. Checking whether a license is valid happens on your computer. The plugin never sends audio, usage statistics or crash reports.

The free trial

Starting a trial records the email address you confirm and the machine code of the computer, permanently, so that each machine and address gets one trial. Nothing is recorded until you click the confirmation link we send.

Server logs

Our license server keeps short-lived logs, which may contain your IP address for a few days, to rate-limit abuse and diagnose failures.

Your choices

Email us to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Two things we cannot delete on request: payment records, which tax law requires us to keep, and the license record while you still want the license to work, because the license depends on it. If you ask us to delete the license record anyway, the license stops working.

This site and the plugin are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. The current version is always at this address.
